This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: 14-16 total gill rakers (GR) on first arch including rudiments; snout length is rather small, 11.8-13 % SL; upper jaw large, 18.8-23.2% SL; pectoral fins long, 35.3-38.8% SL, pelvic fins, 26.8-27.4 % SL; pelvic fins do not reach anal fin; body colour basically dark brown with anterior violet speckles, lines, and a well-marked dot over the rear edge of opercle, no distinct dark spots (nose, pectoral-fin base, and caudal peduncle) (Ref. 92994).
This species currently has no information on ecology except that it is found in shallow waters less than 20 m, where it is hooked by fishermen (Ref. 92994).

Trophic level (Ref.
69278): 3.8 ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref.
120179): High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref.
