This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: gill rakers 36-38 (37) In first gill arch with 14-16 (modally 15) in upper series, 21-23 (22) in lower series; gill rakers 27-31 (29) in second gill arch, with 9-11 (10) in upper and 18-20 (19) in lower series; gill rakers 17-20 (19) in third gill arch with 7-9 (8) in upper and 10-12 (11) in lower series; gill rakers 14-17 (15) in fourth gill arch with 5-7 (7) in upper and 8-10 (9) in lower series; prepelvic scutes 3-7 (6); with a long maxilla, the posterior tip slightly short of or just reaching posterior border of opercle; predorsal scutes absent; pelvic scute no spine-like projection; the posterior border of preopercle is indented, concave; posterior tip of pelvic fin is not reaching to vertical through dorsal-fin origin; lengths of caudal peduncle, 19.7-21.9% (mean 20.4%) of SL, of pectoral fin, 14.3-15.2% (14.6%) of SL and of pelvic fin, 6.7-7.6% (7.1%) of SL. Colouration: distinct paired dark patches on parietal region; absence of dark lines on dorsum; no black spots below the eye or on the lower-jaw tip (Ref. 124189).
