Etymology: Pseudanthias: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, anthias = a fish, Sparus aurata (Ref. 45335);  paralourgus: Named from Greek 'para' for besude ir near and 'halourgos' which literally means 'from the sea' which is taken as to refer to the purple dye obtained from certain marine molluscs; name refers to the distinctive purpletipped caudal fin lobes..

Description synthétique Morphologie | Morphométrie

Épines dorsales (Total): 10; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 16; Épines anales 3; Rayons mous anaux: 7. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: D X,16 with third dorsal spine longest; pectoral rays 18-20; lateral-line scales 40-44; greatest body depth 35.9-38.3% SL (2.6-2.8 in SL); predorsal formula 0/0+0/1+1; body without auxiliary scales; caudal fin lunate with filamentous extensions. Colouration: males with pink mostly horizontal vermiculate lines on the ventral and posterior part of the body and distal tips of caudal fin broadly pink-purple (Ref. 127477).

Collected in trawls at depths ranging from 110-119 m, and with two other species likely form mixed-species aggregations in the water column well above the bottom, feeding on plankton (Ref. 127477).
