Etymology: Heteromormyrus: Greek, heteros = other + Greek mormyros = a kind of fish similar to Boops sp. (Ref. 45335); tavernei: This species is dedicated to Mr. Louis Taverne whose osteological studies have considerably advanced the generic classification of mormyrids (Ref. 42475).
