Comments: Known from Atlantic coast of France north to Loire estuary (Rf. 59043). The first importations were in Montpellier at the end of 1927. Present in the Mediterranean region, from the Italian border to the Spanish border. On the Atlantic side, it exists in several ponds and coastal rivers (Ref. 2196).

Etymology: Gambusia: Gambusia: From the Cuban term, Gambusino, which means "nothing", usually in the context of a joke or a farce. Fishing for gambusinos = when one catches nothing (Ref. 45335).
