Etymology: Abyssobrotula: Greek, abyssos, deep, depth + Latin, brotula = little bud, shoot (Ref. 45335); hadropercularis: 'hadropercularis', i.e., from 'hadros' meaning bulky, and 'opercularis', meaning gill cover, in reference to the robust opercle (Ref. 110276).
