Etymology: Ageneiosus: Greek, a = without + greek, geneias, -ados = bear, chin (Ref. 45335);  akamai: Named for Alberto Akama; patronym in genitive case (Ref. 124585).

Short description Morfología | Morfometría

Radios blandos anales: 31 - 37; Vértebra: 46 - 48. This species can be distinguished by the following set of characters: D I,6; A 31-37; P I,11-13 (mode 12); GR 14-18 (mode 16) on anterolateral margin of first branchial arch; 46-48 total vertebrate; caudal fin deeply forked, with pointed lobes; reduced and ossified gas bladder; and by having epaxial musculature covering the tympanic region. Colouration: dark uniform dorsolateral stripe extending from posterior region of head to caudal-fin base; dark blotch of snout expanded posteriorly on top of head above frontals and nuchal plates; dorsal area of snout almost completely dark; pectoral and pelvic fins hyaline or dark, with many melanophores; anal and caudal fins hyaline and yellowish; dorsal fin often has melanophores concentrated on distal tips of first branched rays (Ref. 124585).
