পৃষ্ঠীয় কাঁটা (মোট ): 37 - 40; পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ): 82-92; পায়ূ কাঁটা 3; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 79 - 81; কশেরুকা : 97 - 100. Differs from all congeners by having a unique color pattern consisting of numerous individual spots or irregular marks, sometimes forming short lines and a whitish belly devoid of any marks. Can be separated from members of the Mastacembelus armatus group by the possession of abdominal vertebrae 42-44 (Ref. 78150).
