Diagnosis

Head and body tan brown; chin with diffused blackish blotch; dorsal surface of head along dorsum to caudal fin dusky brown; midpoint of caudal fin posteriad blackish; other fins translucent. Cycloid scales embedded on head and body, non-imbricated. Eyes rudimentary but distinct, covered by skin. Mouth oblique, with 8 small barbels on underside of chin (small barbels occasionally on juveniles). Pectoral -fin rays free and silk-like (Ref. 45316).
