Comments

Occurs in Janakpur, Bagmati and Narayani zones at altitudes of 1,380-1,424 m; a cold water fish cultured in the mid hill and mountain rivers of Pokhara Lake and fetched more than 300 Rs/kg smoked in Kathmandu, March 1992 (Ref. 9496). Also occurs in Kali Gandaki and Karnali (Ref. 40948), Koshi and Mahakali (Ref. 57735). Prefers rhithron streams (Ref. 57735). Preserved in temple ponds and worshipped as a Fish Goddess. Considered threatened (Ref. 12045). Also Ref. 4832, 41236.
