Recorded from almost all the water bodies in mainland China, in Zhujiang (=Pearl River), Minjiang, Xiangjiang, Changjiang (=Yangtze River), Huanghe (=Huanghe River), Haihe, Songhuajiang, and Heilongjiang (=Amur) rivers (Ref. 45654), Canton basin (Ref. 13397), Lianzi Lake (Ref. 38003) and Tungting Lake known as "huang-ku-yü" (Ref. 35840). Also found in Beijiang River (Ref. 89718). Introduced from its native range to other regions in the country (intensive culture and extensive stocking in all kinds of inland waters) (Ref. 55380). Present in Pearl River (Ref. 89718). Known from Zhaoguan, Sanshui and Zhaoqing of Guangdong Prov.; Yang Shuo of Guangxi Prov.; Nanchang of Jiangxi Prov.; Yueyang of Hunan Prov.; Zhejiang of Jiangsu Prov.; Baiyangdian of Hebei Prov.; Beijing; Liaozhong, Banshan of Liangning Prov (Ref. 45654).
