Ranges from Paraíba south to Santa Catarina, including Zumbi Reefs and Trindade Island (Ref. 57756). Frequently seen on rocky reefs along the coasts south of Rio de Janeiro (Rodrigo Díaz Olmos, pers. comm. 22/01/02). Traded as an aquarium fish at Fortaleza, Ceará (Ref. 49392).
