Known from the Mekong basin. Found in the lower and middle Xe Bangfai River (Ref. 27732) and in Ban Hang Khone, a village on an island in the middle of the mainstream Mekong River just below the Great Khone Waterfalls in Khong District, Champasak Province (Ref. 37767). Collected from Tha Ngon and Hatsalao in the Mekong basin (Ref. 4792). One of the most important fishes in the specialized "tone" trap fishery at Ban Hang Khone form January to March (Ref. 37770). This fishery mainly targets small highly migratory cyprinids (Ref. 37770). Reported to migrate upstream during the dry season in December/March in Southern Laos (Ref. 37769). Also Ref. 30857, 36654.
