Found in the mainstreams and tirbutaries of Gandaki, Koshi and Karnali. Preserved in temple ponds and worshipped as a Fish Goddess. Used in folk medicine and as ornamental fish by Buddhists. Considered endangered (Ref. 12045). Also Ref. 6351, 40948, 57735.
