Found only in Western Ghats (Ref. 56014). Known from rivers of Canara, South Karnataka to Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu (Ref. 45255). This species forms the exclusive fishery in the Anjanapur Reservoir (Shimoga District, Karnataka). Also Ref. 40976, 43634, 43640, 44148.

Status of threat: Endangered (Ref. 41236).
