Occurs throughout India (Ref. 41236). Found in Chilka Lake (Ref. 29108); Western Ghats (Ref. 40976); Savitri River, Maharashtra (Ref. 43634, 44323); Assam and West Bengal (Ref. 45255). Very common in ponds of West Bengal (Ref. 4832). Present in Bhimtal and Naukuchiatal lakes (Ref. 89721). Considered of medicinal value in Tamil Nadu (Ref. 4832). Also Ref. 43640.

Status of threat: Low risk in Western Ghats (Ref. 50614).
