Found only in Tennessee and Cumberland River drainages in Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee. Extremely rare in Tennessee River drainage; probably extirpated in Cumberland River drainage (Ref. 5723). Collected from Buffalo River (Tennessee River), Wayne County (Ref. 41482). Also Ref. 10294.

Status of threat: threatened; status declined since 1989. Criteria: 1 (http://fisc.er.usgs.gov/afs/) (Ref. 81264).
