Type-locality of the syntypes of Labeo steindachnerii: 'Kingani-Fluss' (Ref. 84052). The Kingani River is also known as Ruvu River, a separate basin and not the same as the Ruvu River tributary of the Pangani River (Ref. 1440), as wrongly indicated in e.g. Ref. 4967. However, it is a controversial distribution record for Labeo coubie, since there are some geographical complications: (1) the holotype of Labeo steindachnerii is found at a point over 1000 km south of any other records for Labeo coubie, and (2) the type-locality is in an area more likely to be occupied by Labeo congoro, an allopatric sibling of Labeo coubie (Ref. 1440).
