Reported to range from Natal to Port Alfred (Ref. 5511, 5578) but Heemstra 1995 (Ref. 11228) notes that presence in southern Africa is dubious, due to previous confusion with P. zijsron. Sometimes caught in Natal shark nets (Ref. 12484). Edible, but of no commercial value (Ref. 12484). Spearfishing of this species is illegal in Natal (Ref. 12484).
