Known from mainland New Zealand, the Kermadec Is. (Ref. 8879), Norfolk and Chatham islands (Ref. 45524). Very common in shallow bays of northern New Zealand and ranges south to about Kaikoura (Ref. 9258). Limited commercial value (Ref. 9258). Voucher specimen(s) held at the NMNZ (Ref. 5755).
