Artificial propagation in rivers of midhill, Pokhara lakes. Natural habitat in Bagmati, Bheri, Gandaki, Karnali, Kosi, Lumbini, Narayani and Mechi; altitudes 135-1,424 m. Population decreased after construction of the Sunkosi dam in Dolalghat. Prefers eddy/run interfaces (Ref. 57735). Considered endangered (Ref. 12044, 12045). Preserved in temple ponds and worshipped as a Fish Goddess (Ref. 12045). Colorful fishes throughout life history (Ref. 85009). Also Ref. 6351, 40948, 56316, 57344, 57345.
