Generally confined to northern India, Mahanadi headwaters and West Bengal (Ref. 45255). Fairly common in West Bengal (Ref. 4833). Also found in Kerala (Ref. 43640); Maharashtra (Ref. 43634); Ombatta swamp, Moyar, Bhavani River, Tamil Nadu (Ref. 44148) and Godavari estuary (Ref. 51036). Also Ref. 41236.

Status of threat: Vulnerable in Western Ghats (Ref. 50614).
