Known off Raine Is. and Tully, Qld.; off Tweed Heads, N.S.W.; off Portland Victoria, the Great Australian Bight off Ceduna, South Australia and off Eucla to off Broome, W.A. (Ref. 7300). Museum: WAM P.26270-007. This species has been misidentified as Diaphus coeruleus in southern Australian waters (Ref. 33839).
