Found in Mekong River and its tributaries (Ref. 9648); also from Phetchaburi, Bang Pakong river, (Chachoengsao), Chiang Mai, Lamphoon, Phitsanulok, Nakhon Sawan, Chai Nat, Suphan Buri, Uthai Thani, Nong Khai, Kalasin, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, Kanchanaburi, Prachin Buri and Surat Thani (Ref. 37773). Captured from the wild for the ornamental fish trade (Ref. 6459). Misidentification of M. atrifasciatus, multiradiatus, mysticetus (Ref. 26336).
