Occurs in the Salween basin only. Reports of this species from the Chao Phraya and Mekong basins are based on misidentification of M. albolineatus or M. singaringan (Ref. 10418); also from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Nong Khai, Kanchanaburi, Kalasin, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Nonthaburi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Kemarat (Ubon Ratchathani), Bangkok, Nakhon Sawan, Chai Nat, Chanthaburi, Prachin Buri and Narathiwat (Ref. 37773).
