Ranges from east coast to False Bay. Caught in estuaries during the summer by game fishers along the southern Cape coast; also caught near river mouths from Algoa Bay northwards. Easily killed during cold upwellings on the south Cape coast. Status of stock indeterminate; evidence of decline in Natal - nuseries probably threatened (Ref. 4332). Caught by recreational shore anglers, estuarine boat anglers, and spear fishers (Ref. 4332). Also Ref. 12484.
