Found around New Zealand to about 45°S (Ref. 9258). Main summer grounds (December to May) are East Cape to Hawke Bay, possibly south of Kaikoura, off the east coast, and off the west coast between New Plymouth and Fiordland (Ref. 9258). Main winter fishing grounds are to the east of New Zealand between the Kermadec Is. and the Chatham Rise (Ref. 9258). Voucher specimen(s) held at the NMNZ. Also Ref. 168, 45493, 89192.
