Occurs naturally in the Kosi, Bagmati, Narayani, Lumbini and Bheri zones with an altitudinal range of 76-250 m. Cultured by artificial propagation in the rivers of the Terai zone. Sold for 65-70 Rs/kg at the Kathmandu market in March 1992. Also Ref. 4832, 41236, 43640.
