Comments: Type locality, Nusa Penida, Mangrove Point, MZB 20567 (holotype of Pseudochromis oligochrysus, 4.98 cm SL). Known only from a few scattered localities in the Lesser Sunda Islands of southern Indonesia, including Nusa Penida and Menjangan Islands off the coast of Bali and from Tanjung Watuili in south Pantar and Pura Island in the Pantar Strait, between Pantar and Alor (Ref. 89054). Also Ref. 90102.

Etymology: Pseudochromis: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335);  oligochrysus: Name from Greek that means 'having little gold'; referring to the “having little gold”, alluding to the scant, though distinctive yellow markings (when viewed underwater, the yellow markings around the eye are distinctly obvious, as are the bright yellow pelvic fins..
