Known from the drainages of the Ganges and Brahmaputra in northern India, Mahanadi river drainage in Orissa, and Western Ghats, south to the headwaters of Krishna river (Ref. 4832). Found in Chilka Lake (Ref. 29108), Karnataka, Kerala and north India (Ref. 43640). Present in Nainital Lake (Ref. 89721). Also Ref. 40976, 41236, 45255.
Status of threat: Data deficient in Western Ghats (Ref. 50614).
