Type locality of the holotype of Barbus osseensis: 'Debre Mariam (locality 1), Lake Tana, Ethiopia' (Ref. 35836). Known only from the southern parts of Lake Tana (Ref. 35836, 96382, 128753), part of the Abay basin (Ref. 58460).
