Known from the rivers Luilaka and Yenge (Ruki drainage)(Ref. 94471), and from the Lulonga (Ref. 94471), Itimbiri and Aruwimi (Ref. 106290). Type locality of the holotype of Eugnathichthys virgatus: 'Democratic Republic of Congo, Equateur Province, Luilaka River at confluence of small stream flowing out of Salonga National Park' (Ref. 94471).
