Type locality, Pools at the floodplains of Igarapé do Baré, near Cano do Lago de Beleza, Lago Amanã system, Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Amanã, Japurá-Solimões drainage, Rio Amazonas basin, Município de Maraã, Estado do Amazonas, UFRJ 6571 (holotype of Rivulus amanan, 2.65 cm SL, male). Known only from 2 localities in northern Brazil, near Igarapé do Baré, a stream draining into lago Amanã, Japurá-Solimões drainage system, rio Amazonas basin (Ref. 78702).
