Introduced for ornamental purposes as well as a biocontrol agent. Impacts on Australian endemic fishes have not been studied although where guppies and Gambusia affinis holbrooki are abundant, endemic fishes are rare (Ref. 12257). Known from Mulgrave and South Johnstone rivers, Wet Tropics, Northern Queensland (Ref. 40054). Recorded from Brisbane, Rockhampton, Cairns and Mackay (Ref. 44894). Also Ref. 1739.
