Found only in the Western Ghats (Ref. 50614). Known from Cauvery and Krishna river sytems, Nilgiri, Wynaad in Kerala and Canara Hills in Karnataka (Ref. 43638). Also found in Moyar, Bhavani, Ombatta swamp, Sinkam Kunihurai, Tamil Nadu (Ref. 44148); Bhawani, Chinnar, Parambikkulam (Ref. 43641). Vulnerable (Ref. 41236). Transplanted into Ooty and other lakes and reservoirs (Ref. 45255). Also Ref. 40976, 43640, 87807.
