Comments: Some adult fish do not spawn each year, particularly if feeding is disrupted prior to the spawning run (Ref. 28722). Sea mullet are known to spawn at sea each year but the exact location of spawning grounds is not known (Ref. 28722). However, from patterns of movement in Australian sea mullet stocks, it is assumed that spawning takes place adjacent to the surf zone of ocean beaches (Ref. 28723, 28707). The timing of the spawning run varies with latitude. The fish migrate to spawn (Ref. 6390).
