| Etymology of specific epithet from ETYFish |
From kephale (Gr.), head, allusion not explained, probably referring to its expanded, flattened and rounded head, “much wider” and with larger pores compared with the similar Parmaturus xaniurus, its presumed congener at the time. (See ETYFish)
