Named for Kronos (Greek: Κρόνος, krónos), th, leader of the first generation of Titans (descendants of Uranus and Gaia) in combination with the old cichlid genus name Heros (meaning hero). The name Kronoheros given to the cichlid that attains the largest body size among Neotropical cichlids.
