Remark: Formerly a common fish in Singapore, now rare due to large scale habitat destruction (all streams are being turned into fast-flowing or usually dry concrete drains, unsuitable for fish life, marshes are reclaimed and turned into golf courses). Prized as a food fish for its believed medicinal healing qualities, given to post-surgery patients. Called haruan/aruan in Malay, rei-hu in Hokkien.
