Max. size:  45 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish; pH range: 6 - 8; dH range: 4 - 28; depth range 0 - 2 m, potamodromous
Distribution:  Asia: Indian subcontinent and Myanmar.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults are found in quiet, shallow (0.5-1.5 m), often muddy water, in sandy streams, rivers and tanks (Ref. 6028). Also occur in canals, beels and inundated fields (Ref. 1479). Feed on vegetable matter and fish (Ref. 6028).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Found in Terai, Kosi, Janakpur, Narayani and Karnali at altitudes of 76-150 m. A medium-sized catfish that is considered to be good in taste. Also Ref. 41236.
