Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Orinoco, Amazon, and Tocantins River basins and upper portion of Rupununi River of Essequibo River drainage.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal soft rays: 9-10; Vertebrae: 31-33
Biology:  Inhabits still waters along the margins of lagoons. Feeds on a variety of algae and fungi.
