Family:  Mochokidae (Squeakers or upside-down catfishes), subfamily: Chiloglanidinae
Max. size:  9 cm SL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 3 years
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to the escarpment streams of the Pongolo and Incomati River systems.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in rocky riffles and rapids. Feeds on insects such as mayfly nymphs and blackfly larvae grazed from rocks. Its spines protect it from predators such as trout. Breeds during the summer. Oviparous (Ref. 205). Is an occasional aquarium species (Ref. 7248).
