Family:  Aphaniidae (Oriental killifishes)
Max. size:  5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish; pH range: 8; dH range: 10, non-migratory
Distribution:  Eurasia: endemic to and only native finfish of Azraq Oasis, Jordan, where it is presently in danger of extinction because of a recent lowering in water level.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  In shallow water among vegetation and stones, or over muddy grounds. Its diet consists of insect larvae and crustaceans. The breeding season lies in the spring (Ref. 13609). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
