Remarks During the spawning season, which is mainly from January through May, fishers observe spawning aggregations in the southern tip of Peleliu. For several days, the schools swim slowly back and forth. The schools are easily approached by divers. Spawning is said to last three days around new and full moons and is reported to occur sporadically during the day, in shallow water near the edge of a steep dropoff. Larvae (ten to fourteen days old) were observed to migrate into a brackish marine pond on northern Peleliu. This occurred throughout the year except in Febuary. Local fishers say that mesekelat migrate seasonally around Palau in a clockwise direction. Also Ref. 100789.
