| ข้อสังเกต | This name is preferred over the name Lake Tanganyika sardine (Ref. 9703) and probably has its origins from Zambia (see note below, M.L.D. Palomares, Coll. No. 21); it is widely established in Zimbabwe & Zambia; it is also shorter & more euphonius (Ref. 9703). Women used to eat this fish before going out into the streets in the early days in Zambia. They would get dressed up with red lips, have some fish and then go out. The people thus called this fish 'kapenta' (Nico E. Willemse, Coll. No. 375, pers. comm.). |
