Morphology | Morphometrics
Differs from its congeners in Balkan Peninsula by the following characters: head length 0.9-1.1 times body depth, 23-25% SL; upper lip not or very slightly projecting; lower jaw with well marked chin, not included in upper jaw; mouth terminal, eye diameter 22-25% HL; 41-44 + 2-3 scales on lateral line; dorsal fin with 8½ branched rays; anal fin usually with 9½ branched rays; distal margin of anal fin straight; distance between tips of first and last branched anal rays (with fin stretched out) greater than caudal peduncle depth (Ref. 59043).
Inhabits lakes and streams with flowing, clear water. Feeds on various plants and animals. Maximum size reaches up to about 21 cm SL (Ref. 59043).
