Remarks Mature males possess the following characters: bony hooks along medial border of six lateralmost branched pelvic-fin rays; bony hooks on last unbranched anal-fin ray and four anteriormost anal-fin branched rays, and hooks irregularly distributed on both sides of posterolateral border of rays (vs. hooks absent on fins of mature females); and small gill-gland present on first eight filaments of first gill arch.

Diagnosis

Rhinopetitia potamorhachia differs from its only congener, R. myersi Géry 1964, by the presence of distinct dark midlateral body stripe (vs. absence) overlaying an inconspicuous, round humeral blotch (vs. absence of humeral blotch); teeth in both premaxillary tooth rows with

seven to nine cusps and seven or eight cusps on the maxillary teeth (vs. outer series of premaxillary teeth with three cusps and inner series of premaxillary teeth with three to five cusps; maxillary teeth with three to five cusps) (Ref. 111429).
