Remarks Females are smaller with body bars well separated; width of bars almost equal to interspaces. Males have dorsal surface of body much darker than in females, bars coalesce on back; fewer and broader predorsal bars; pectoral fin slightly longer than in females.

Diagnosis

Diagnosed from congeners in having a unique combination of the following characters: body with 12-14 obliquely arranged olivaceous dark bars; lateral line complete with 104-112 pores; dorsal fin with 3-4 simple and 8½ branched rays, marked with irregularly arranged black spots; caudal fin with 8+8 branched rays, slightly emarginated, lobes equal in length; dorsal adipose crest prominent; preorperculo-mandibular canal with 10-11 pores; absence of suborbital flap.
