Comentarios | Species first appeared in 1938 or 1939 when it was found by Mr. Mudjair in the south coast of East Java (Ref. 6093). Subsequently introduced to Sumatra in 1939, Lambok in 1941, Bali in 1941 or 1943, Sulawesi (=Celebes) in 1944, Mollucas in 1949, Banjak and Borneo (Kalimantan) in 1950 (Ref. 1739, 5731). Well established in all areas. Caused the extinction of endemic mollusks as well as endemic fish Xenopoecilus sarasinorum in Lake Lindu, Sulawesi (Ref. 12217). The decline of local fish populations is thought to be due to intense competition with tilapia for food (Ref. 36777). Also Ref. 36683, 57960. Ref: Kottelat, M. and T. Whitten, 1996 |
