Brought to Hawaii by Asian immigrants in the 1800s; found only on the island of O'ahu, where it is abundant in the Wahiawa Reservoir and several smaller reservoirs on the north side of the island; considered to be one of the best eating fish among freshwater fishermen (Ref. 44091). Also Ref. 58302.
